A Non Domestic Energy Performance Certificate, also known as an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) in some instances, is a mandatory requirement for commercial buildings that are under construction, up for sale, or available for rent. It assesses the energy performance potential of the building and its services, providing insights into its efficiency levels. NDEPCs are generated using SBEM calculations and are accompanied by a detailed report containing recommendations for enhancing the building’s energy performance, along with estimations of payback periods.
The necessity for obtaining an NDEPC is rooted in the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), which mandates that all commercial buildings falling under the categories of under construction, for sale, or for rent must possess a valid NDEPC. These certificates serve as a tool to guide property owners and occupants in making their buildings more energy-efficient, while also enabling potential buyers or tenants to compare different buildings based on their energy performance levels.
